GAMA’s crucial role in making the maritime industries safer

07/08/2017

TheGabinete de Investigação de Acidentes Marítimos e da Autoridade para a Meteorologia Aeronáutica (GAMA) is a key service of Portugal’s Maritime Administration.

Its goal is to help reduce the number of maritime accidents by investigating incidents and casualties, identifying the cause, developing and disseminating reports and formulating recommendations.

It is of vital importance to inform the Department of any accident or incident and provide as much information as possible in order that it can act decisively and quickly.

Each investigation report prepared by GAMA is circulated on a consultancy basis among those involved and all submissions are considered before the final report is made public.

GAMA´s legal framework is covered by the Directive 2009/18/CE of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 23 2009, the Commission Regulation 1286/2011 of December 9 2011, the Portuguese law 18/2012 of May 7 2012 and the Portuguese Decree Law 236/2015 of October 14 2015.

Should your vessel suffer any accident or incident, you can report this by completing the forms available on Euromar´s website or on the website www.gama.mm.gov.pt

You can also contact the Department directly by phone (00351) 967 852 458 on a 24-hour basis.
